Saturation:
The purity of a color. The more a color is saturated, the more gray it contains.
Scalable:
An image, such as that stored as vector data, which can be scaled (increased or decreased in size) without causing the image to become misshapen.
Scaling:
The process of enlarging an image in one or more directions.
Scanner:
An input device generating a bitmap image of a surface. A section of code or program allowing random access to a block of data and which treats different portions of the block differently in accord with its informational content.
Scan:
The process of digitizing a printed image (picture, negative, slide, etc.
SCSI:
Pronounced "scuzzy," this is a high speed connection between your computer and devices such as scanners or external drives.
Shell:
Another term for user interface. In ACD Systems software, shell refers to your operating system or parent application. You can use shell commands to access other programs or applications from within ACD Systems software.
Shell Command:
A command sent to the operating system or parent application by another program or application.
SLR Camera:
Single Lens Reflex - With these types of cameras, the viewfinder shows the view seen through the lens of the camera.
Streaming:
Playing an audio or video file as it downloads from the Internet.
Strong Encryption Format (.sef):
SEF files are cryptographic archives that are used to store files in a secure manner. These files make use of the Twofish encryption algorithm with a 256-bit key. Because of the highly optimized compression and encryption routines used with the Strong Encryption Format, a seamless integration occurs with almost any kind of application. For example, suppose you have several TIFF images of faxes that you wish to remain private. Simply add them to a .sef archive and delete the originals. Any time you wish to work with your faxes, all you have to do is select the file and enter your password.
